TEHRAN: Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri has urged Pakistan to take prompt action against the kidnappers of Iranian border guards.

Baqeri made these remarks in a phone call with army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa on Saturday.

Based on the agreements, reached between Iran and Pakistan armed forces to safeguard common borders, Iran expects Pakistani forces to adopt necessary measures for ensuring release of kidnapped soldiers and border guards. Baqeri also underlined the importance of deploying more Pakistan military forces on the Pak-Iran border to maintain security and prevent movement of terrorists. Meanwhile, Gen Bajwa expressed regrets over the incident. He vowed full cooperation.—NNI
