Gender equality

In an interview published in the November 30 issue of Business Recorder, the Oxfam Programme director claims that ‘Pakistan is the second worst rated country in gender equality’. This statement is outrageous and far from the truth. It smacks of a political agenda.

The gentleman must be blind not to take note of 40 million female foetuses aborted and millions of young women raped in India every year. He also seems oblivious to the plight of women in Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and a whole host of African and some Eastern European countries, where prostitution is rampant and women are use as sex slaves.

Oxfam can hardly take a high moral ground to tell us that we are the second worst country in gender equality and that too based on totally false and deliberately manipulated information.

Pakistan is one of the most charitable countries in the world and it does not need a tainted organisation like Oxfam to tell us what we need to do.
