RECORDER REPORT

KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar on Thursday said that Sindh Katchi Abadis Authority (SKAA) has control over 50 percent of urban area Kachi Abadis that he said caused severe financial loss to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).

Through Sindh Local Government Act-2013, the mayor said all revenue generating departments including Katchi Abadis were transferred to Sindh government from KMC. The move he said badly affected the development process of the metropolis.

Addressing a meeting after the inauguration of a renovated Katchi Abadis model office here the Mayor said that SKAA’s responsibility was to just notify urban area Katchi Abadis, but interestingly it has started leasing of such Abadis.

“Leasing of urban area Katchi Abadis is the responsibility of KMC,” he said.

Without empowering local government, he said development of Karachi will remain a distant dream.

Earlier, KMC’s department of Katchi Abadis was established with an aim to regularise the Katchi Abadis in urban Sindh.
