ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Standing Committee on Law and Justice on Wednesday expressed displeasure over the continued absence of the relevant minister from the committee’s meetings.

The committee, which met with MNA Riaz Fatyana in the chair, noted with concerns the absence of Minister for Law and Justice Farogh Naseem and expressed its displeasure over non-availability of the minister concerned. It was also observed by the committee that since the inception of the committee, the minister has attended only one meeting of the committee.

Before proceeding further, the committee expressed its grief and condolence to the families of persons passed away in the terrorist attacks in Nigeria. The committee observed silence for one minute in solidarity with the affected families.

The committee was briefed by the secretary Law & Justice Commission of Pakistan about the performance, service structure and sanctioned strength of the Commission.

The reports of the Commission published in various times were also presented before the committee for consideration. The committee appreciated the Commission for its performance and presentation while the remaining agenda items were deferred for its next meeting.

Those who attended the meeting included Chaudhry Mehmood Bashir Virk, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Syed Hussain Tariq, Atta Ullah, Mohammad Farooq Azam Malik, Malik Ehsan Ullah Tiwana, Agha Hassan Baloch, Sher Ali Arbab, Shunila Ruth, Rana Sana Ullah Khan, Nafisa Shah and Aliya Kamran.
