FAISALABAD: Divisional Commissioner Mehmud Javed Bhatti has directed for taking appropriate measures to curb the incidents of canal water theft in Faisalabad Division.

Presiding over a meeting to review the matters relating to the canal water theft, he directed for regular monitoring of the canal system for the safety and security of the irrigation water resources. He informed that CM Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar has taken serious notice of canal theft incidents and directed the lower formations to stop this menace.

The Commissioner said the legal action should be taken against the accused without any discrimination. He asked the ACs to keep close liaison with the local irrigation officers and concerned staff be mobilized for the supervision of canals. He asked the irrigation authorities for taking action against the staff found involved in connivance of canal water theft.

RPO Ghulam Mehmud Dogar said canal water was national resource and stealing of water would not be tolerated. He assured that police would extend full cooperation for taking action against the accused of water theft. He directed the district heads of the police for immediate registration of cases against the accused of water theft as forwarded by the irrigation department.

The Deputy Commissioners assured for providing all out cooperation to the irrigation department in this regard. Deputy Commissioner Faisalabad Sardar Saifullah Dogar, Acting CPO Nadeem Abbas, ACG Musawar Niazi and officers of irrigation department were present in the meeting while Deputy Commissioners Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and Chiniot Tahir Wattoo, Mian Muhsin Rasheed and Aman Anwar Qudwai participated in the meeting through video link.
