RECORDER REPORT

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has asked Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ahsan Iqbal to appear before it today with respect to an investigation about the Narowal Sports City Project (NSCP).

Sources said NAB Rawalpindi has summoned former interior minister Iqbal for recording his statement in a probe related to alleged misappropriation in the NSCP case.

Iqbal is accused of starting the project worth Rs 3 billion illegally. Pakistan Sports Board (PCB) is also accused of illegally using its authority for the construction of this project.

The NAB chairman in May 2018 had ordered to verify the complaints against the alleged misappropriation of government funds in the construction of the NSCP.

The bureau elaborated that the chairman took notice of the matter as rules were violated in the construction of the sports city, and there was also an issue of security. The 44-acre sports city is being built just 800 metres from the Indian border.
