RECORDER REPORT

KARACHI: Back to back power breakdowns at Karachi Water & Sewerage Board’s (KW&SB) strategic hub and Gharo stations halted water supply to Karachi here on Wednesday.

Also, the power outage affected a 220 horse power motor of Gharo pumping station, the board officials claimed.

They said the Hub and Gharo pumping stations observed frequent power outage and fluctuations, resulting in suspension of over 20 million gallon water to the city which is already facing water shortfall of up to 550 MGD.

The city receives 100 MGD from Hub and 30 MDG from Gharo pumping stations.

The affected multi-million pumping motor is being repaired on the directives of Managing Director Asadullah Khan. Hub power station observed power fluctuations at 11:20am that lasted for one and a half hour. Another breakdown took place at around 4:20pm.

Meanwhile, the North East Karachi Pumping Station also faced power cut at around 4:50pm that continued for half an hour.
