BRIndex100 moves up

KARACHI: Pakistan Stock Exchange exhibited another bullish session on Thursday on the back of healthy buying mainly by local investors and institutions.

BRIndex100 gained 47.98 points or 1.36 percent to close at 3,579.71 points. During the session, the BRIndex-100 touched an intraday high of 3,582.91 and an intraday low of 3,529.86 points. Total volumes stood at 246.849 million shares.

BRIndex30 increased by 274.14 points or 1.48 percent to close at 18,845.55 points with total turnover of 181.433 million shares.

KSE-100 index surged by 503.96 points or 1.50 percent and closed above 34,000 level at 34,027.70 points. Trading activities also improved as daily volumes on ready counter increased to 261.561 million shares as compared to 237.676 million shares traded on Wednesday.

The foreign investors remained net sellers of shares worth $1.9 million. Total market capitalization increased by Rs 103 billion to Rs 6.711 trillion. Out of total 400 active scrips, 247 closed in positive and 132 in negative while the value of 21 stocks remained unchanged.

Lotte Chemical was the volume leader with 26.796 million shares and gained Re 0.53 to close at Rs 16.01 followed by Pak Int Bulk that inched up by Re 0.38 to close at Rs 9.51 with 17.269 million shares. Unilever Foods and Pak Tobacco were the top gainers increasing by Rs 277.55 and Rs 113.00 respectively to close at Rs 5828.55 and Rs 2420.00 while Bhanero Textile and Bata Pak were the top losers declining by Rs 28.50 and Rs 18.01 respectively to close at Rs 912.50 and Rs 1599.99.

BR Automobile Assembler Index gained 25.92 points or 0.52 percent to close at 4,997.88 points with total turnover of 1.162 million shares.

BR Cement Index increased by 82.92 points or 2.83 percent to close at 3,015.44 points with 30.530 million shares.

BR Commercial Banks Index surged by 95.51 points or 1.2 percent to close at 8,031.13 points with 24.594 million shares.

BR Power Generation and Distribution Index inched up by 71.64 points or 1.55 percent to close at 4,701.48 points with 19.414 million shares.

BR Oil and Gas Index closed at 3,887.24 points, up 47.15 points or 1.23 percent with 11.655 million shares.

BR Tech & Comm Index gained 17.16 points or 2.36 percent to close at 743.64 points with 20.697 million shares.

An analyst at Topline Securities said the equities came in investors’ radar after Wednesday’s T-bill auction in which yields across the board came down over previous cut-off in range of 4-38bps.

Bond yields in secondary market have further witnessed downward trend in the session, indicating a possible rate cut in monetary policy over next couple of months.

Commercial Banks were the largest contributor to the index to the tune of 115 points, followed by E&P companies which contributed 74 points to the index.
