RECORDER REPORT

KARACHI: Former Governor Sindh, Lt Gen (retd) Moinuddin Haider has said that Sir Syed Ahmed Khan gave a new direction to the Muslims of the subcontinent.

While inaugurating the Sir Syed Institute of Emerging Technology, he said that Sir Syed established a majestic academic institute, Aligarh Muslim University that produced a highly educated middle class in the society.

He said that Sir Syed Institute of Emerging Technology would prove to be an important milestone in imparting technical education among the youth. “If you want to work sincerely for the service of mankind, you don’t require authority or power. We talk too much but practically we deliver nothing,” he added.

He was the chief guest for the launching ceremony of the institute that will initially begin with cyber security course programme and later on many other technologies will be introduced. Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association (AMUOBA) organised the event.

President AMUOBA and Chancellor Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET), Jawaid Anwar said that the present time is the era of technology. If we didn’t keep the pace with the rapid continuous change in technology, we will be left behind. Technological advancement is the key to economic prosperity. It may be observed that the countries devoid of natural and agriculture resources are ranked among the top developed nations because of the technological advancement.

Chancellor Jawaid Anwar said that the cybercrime is on the rise. Even some of the world’s biggest companies have fallen prey to cybercriminals, who have leaked sensitive data that put millions at risk. It is now risky to do business without taking the proper precautions.

A significant portion of that data can be sensitive information, financial data, personal information, or other types of data for which unauthorised access or exposure could have negative consequences. It is, therefore, necessary to gain intelligence to be protective against cyber-attacks.

General Secretary AMUOBA, Muhammad Arshad Khan in his concluding remarks said that the wives of King Shahjahan and King Edward died but King Shahjahan built Taj Mahal for her memorial, yet King Edward established a medical research centre.

It shows the difference of thought and priorities. Following the doctrines of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, we established academic institutions and started the project of 14-storey Sir Syed Tower. And today we are launching Sir Syed Institute of Emerging Technology at Sir Syed Tower.

Advisor Continuing Education Programme, Mukhtar Ahmed Naqvi and Farrukh Nizami also spoke on the occasion. Afterwards, Lt Gen (retd) Moinuddin Haider along with President AMUOBA and Chancellor SSUET, Jawaid Anwar inaugurated the Sir Syed Institute of Emerging Technology by cutting the ribbon.
