RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: With decline in platelets count of former PM Nawaz Sharif, discussions are on within Sharif family for taking Nawaz Sharif to London for treatment, it has been learnt.

Nawaz was taken to his Jati Umra residence from Services Hospital on Wednesday. An ICU under the supervision of doctors of Sharif Medical City is functioning at Jati Umra. Doctors conducted tests of Nawaz Sharif on Thursday which confirmed decline in his platelets counts at around 20,000, sources said.

The sources claimed that doctors of Sharif Medical City are also in touch with a team of doctors at London and there is possibility that Nawaz would be shifted to London for treatment, the sources claimed.

“Shahbaz Sharif is learnt to have convinced Nawaz to get treatment in London and stop insisting on getting treatment only in Lahore,” the sources said.

“The PML-N president has spoken to consultants at one of the Harley Street clinics where patients suffering from drop in platelets are treated privately.”

The sources claimed that Dr Mehmood Ayaz, who heads the panel of doctors overseeing the treatment of the former prime minister had advised Nawaz to go abroad for treatment. He said the medical board set up for the PML-N leader’s treatment would give in writing that he should undergo genetic test from abroad.

Foreign visit would become essential if doctors want to examine body tissues of the patient in order to diagnose the exact cause of his illness, the sources said.
