KARACHI: There is an urgent need to restore broken link with Persian language to understand Maulana Rumi, Shaikh Saadi and most importantly Allama Iqbal, whose most important poetry is in Persian language, speakers said on Monday, deploring that nowadays, Pakistanis have to consult English-language translations to comprehend, Rumi, Saadi and even Iqbal.

“Revival of Persian language is need of the hour as most of the Islamic philosophical work, theology, art and culture and poetry is in that language which was official language of Indian sub-continent prior to British Raj. We need to teach Persian language to our children so that they could understand the work and messages of Maulana Rumi, Shaikh Saadi and most of Persian poetry of Allama Iqbal”, said Dr Saadia Rashid, Chancellor of Hamdard University while speaking at a ceremony here on Monday.
