KARACHI: The rupee moved cautiously against the dollar on the money market on Tuesday in the process of trading activity, dealers said.

INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: The rupee slipped by two paisas in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 155.32 and Rs 155.34 respectively, they said.

OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee gained 10 paisas versus the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 155.20 and Rs 155.50 respectively, they said. The rupee depreciated by 70 paisas against the euro for buying and selling at Rs 170.00 and Rs 172.00 respectively, they said.

In the second Asian trade, the dollar held an upper hand against the yen on Tuesday as optimism on a trade deal between the United States and China dented the allure of the safe-haven unit while the British pound was supported by hopes of an end to a hung parliament.

The euro softened to $1.1013, near one-week low of $1.10035 touched on Monday. Sterling traded at $1.2900, supported by hopes that the ruling Conservatives could win a majority in the Dec. 12 election to end a hung parliament.

The dollar was available against the Indian rupee at Rs 71.610, the greenback was at 4.179 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the US dollar was trading versus the Chinese yuan at 7.029.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee marginally declined on buying side while stayed unchanged on selling side in relation to the greenback in the open currency market on Tuesday.

According to currency dealers, the greenback gained 10 paisas during the trading session and ended higher for buying at Rs 155.30 against the opening rate of Rs 155.20 whereas it did not observe any change for selling at Rs 155.55.

Moreover, the local currency also remained firmed against the pound sterling for buying at Rs 199.20 while it lost 30 paisas and ended for selling at Rs 200.30 against the previous closing trend of Rs 200.00, they added.

RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar gained 5 paisas against the rupee at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Tuesday.

The dollar opened at Rs 155.75 (buying) and Rs 155.80 (selling) against last rate of Rs 155.70 (buying) and Rs 155.75 (selling).

It closed at Rs 155.75 (buying) and Rs 155.80 (selling).

The buying and selling rates of one tola of gold were Rs. 85,500 (selling) and Rs 85,200 (buying) in the local Sarafa (gold) markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
