Opposition walks out of Punjab PA in protest

LAHORE: The Opposition on Friday staged a walkout from the House’s proceeding to protest manhandling of PML-N legislator Tofeeq Butt by the police in the National Accountability Court during the hearing of PML-N MPA Khawja Salman Rafique .

The session started two hours late under the chair of Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari. Speaking on the point of order PML (N) MPA Khawja Salman Rafique said that during the hearing in the court police tortured PML (N) MPAs.

While responding to Salman Rafique, Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari directed the Law minister to take notice of the incident. He also said that before that police tortured women workers of PML (N). Deputy Speaker directed the Law Minister to take strict action against those who were involved in the incident. The Police high handedness with the members of the assembly is unacceptable.

Former speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal said that Law minister should present adjournment motion in the House in order to solve this matter immediately. Khalil Tahir Sindhu and Yaseen Sohal demanded that strict action should be taken against the culprits.

Law minister Raja Basharat said that in the past when such type of incident was happened he hold meeting with the DIG operations in which it was decided that MPA’s can enter the court after showing their card. He said that there is a space of thirty people in the court but more than hundred people were present in the court. He assured the House that matter will be solved today.

Deputy Speaker gave five minutes time for completing the quorum but the treasury benches failed to complete the quorum upon which the he prorogue the session for indefinite period.
