KARACHI: Some 10 famous individuals in the field of sports, education, journalism, art and social work have been honoured by Hakim Mohammed Said Award.

Hakim Mohammed Said Awards ceremony 2020 was held on the occasion of 100th birth anniversary of Hakim Said in Karachi and Governor Sindh Imran Ismail along with Sadia Rashid, President Hamdard Foundation Pakistan, presented awards to squash legend Jahangir Khan, top goal scorer in field of Hockey Sohail Abbas, Mushtaq Chapra in recognition of his exceptional services to education, Imran Aslam for excellence in journalism, Smina Ahmed for excellence in performing art, Parveen Saeed for iconic social work, Moin Akhtar for brilliance in art and entertainment, Mustansar Hussain Tarar for literature and travelogues, Master Ayub for promoting education to the poor segment of society and Tahira Qazi for bravery as she put her life in danger to protect her students. Post humous awards of Moin Akhtar and Tahira Qazi were received by their sons, Mansoor Akhtar and Ahmed Qazi respectively.

Addressing the ceremony Governor Sindh Imran Ismail said that Hakim Mohammed Said was a great man in true sense of the word as great men are those who are philanthropists, serve the people selflessly and spend their earnings on the welfare of masses. He further said that Hakim Said is a role model for all of us and we should follow his footsteps.

Sadia Rashid in a welcome address said that the Hakim Mohammed Said Awards were held to encourage and recognise exceptional individuals in different fields for their remarkable contributions. These traits were part of Hakim Mohammed Said who used to encourage people, she added.

“This event takes place on 100th birth anniversary of Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said who committed his life for the betterment of Pakistan. It is indeed a pleasure for me to give awards to remarkable Pakistanis on this auspicious day and these awards acknowledge their contribution as recognised by society is a strong motivator,” she said.

She emphasised on the importance of recognition and gave examples of Nobel Prize, Lenin Prize, Shah Faisal Award and Golden Globe.

She congratulated all the recipients of this year’s awards and asked youth to learn more about great people, especially Hakim Said, by reading their biographies to get inspired. Hakim Said devoted his life to serve humanity, goodness and development of Pakistan, she maintained.

Meanwhile squash legend Jahangir Khan’s award, who is in England these days, was received by Anwar Maqsood.

On the occasion, a cake cutting ceremony was also held where Governor Sindh and Sadia Rashid cut the cake to mark 100th birth anniversary of Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said. Event was hosted by renowned humorist and a writer Anwar Maqsood. Famous Qawwal Farid Ayaz, Abu Muhammad and their associates presented beautiful Qawwali and received warm appreciation from the guests. Sadia Rashid gave special shield of Replica of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)’s Seal to Governor Sindh.
