ISLAMABAD: The United Nations Security Council on Wednesday discussed the situation in the Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJ&K) again in New York, diplomatic sources said.

This is the 2nd time that the UNSC has taken up the issue since August 5, 2019 when the Modi government undertook unilateral and illegal decision of Kashmir annexation and imposed worst restrictions and curfew in the entire occupied valley.

The sources said that Pakistan and China had earlier requested consideration of the situation in J&K. The Council immediately responded to the request.

They said that the Department of Peace Operations and the Department of Political and Peace Building Affairs briefed the Council, followed by a discussion on the situation among Council members. All 15 members of the Council participated in the discussion. “The Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains on the Council’s agenda and the discussion today reaffirms that the international community remains concerned about the situation,” a diplomatic source said.
