ISLAMABAD: A fact-finding committee of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has so far reconciled and verified data of more than 304 trucks cleared from Torkham out of total 355 vehicles.

The FBR's fact-finding committee has reconciled the data on the basis of import documents including goods declarations (GDs), examination reports, scanning reports, weighment slips and bank scrolls (Bank challan identification number), which are ultimate document to provide that duties and taxes have been paid.

On Tuesday, the FBR constituted a joint investigation team (JIT) comprising collector Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Appraisement and Facilitation; collector MCC Enforcement and Compliance, and director Intelligence Customs, Peshawar, to investigate the matter.

Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) on Monday also took notice of the report of Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation that 355 vehicles escaped through Torkham Customs Station without filing of GDs and payment of duty and taxes during October-November, 2019.

In this regard, the FTO office has directed the Customs Department to submit record of the trucks cleared from the Torkham border during the said period.
