ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Standing Committee on Industries and Production headed by Sajid Turi on Thursday visited the manufacturing plant of M/s Indus Motor Company (IMC) which manufactures Toyota cars.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Indus Motors Company, Ali Asghar Jamali welcomed the members and officials at IMC Head office, Karachi. The committee paid its visit to different sections of the manufacturing plants of Indus Motors. The committee witnessed the manufacturing process of vehicles under the supervision of well experienced local and foreign (Japanese) engineers and workers.

The committee members have shares their views for improvement in plant, which was established in 1989 after visiting the plant, The Managing Director, IMC briefed the committee about the historical background of the company.

He appraised the committee about the different specifications of cars launched by Indus Motors Company (IMC) time to time in Pakistan, including some imported vehicles and upcoming versions of new cars.

The Managing Director, responded the questions raised by the Members regarding quality of products as compared to imported vehicles, the committee expressed its satisfaction in this regard.

However, Members have shown their concerns about the increase of cars price in the country. Additional Secretary, Ministry of Industries informed that taxation matters were taken up earlier with Ministry of Finance and Revenue but they didn’t respond properly in last financial year. The committee decided that an exclusive meeting may be convened with FBR, and Ministry of Finance to resolve the problems  of ACD, FED, shortly.—PR
