KARACHI: Pakistan Airline Pilots’ Association (PALPA) on Thursday urged PIAC management for protective processes to be implemented to make aircraft and cockpits, in particular, cleaner, safe and disinfected for the safe conduct of duties.

In a letter sent to Director Safety Management, Flight Safety Division, General Secretary Palpa Capt Narejo highlighted the grim situation emerged after the confirmed Coronavirus cases in Pakistan and neighbouring countries and other PIACL destinations.

He urged the management to take preventive measures to ensure that none of PIACL employees who are working at the airport fall sick and requested the Director Safety Management, Flight Safety Division to ensure N95 or surgical face masks, clean water for hand washing with disinfectant/sanitizer etc fumigation of aircraft on each arrival/departure as precautionary measures for crew and all ground personnel.

Similarly, it was also suggested that ground handling personnel should be provided disposable gloves and all edible leftovers and other disposable items are properly disposed off. “Pilots and flight crew face greater risk factor if any infected person travels with us in a closed, air-conditioned and with limited space environment,” the letter said.
