ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet has approved the appointment of Farhan Shafi as managing director Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation (Pvt) Limited for a period of three years.

The PMDC board has approved his name as MD in its 192nd meeting held on March 18, 2020 against a lucrative package of Rs1.7 million including one 1800cc car with driver for official and private use with 360 liters petrol per month. The PMDC is an autonomous corporation under the administrative control of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources.

It was established in 1974 with an authorised capital of Rs1,000 million to expand and help mineral development activities in the country.

It is involved in exploration and evaluation of economic mineral deposits, preparation of techno-economic feasibility reports, mining, and marketing.

The PMDC is operating four coal mines, four salt mines/quarries and a silica sand quarry. The PMDC shares 17 percent of the coal and 58 percent of the total salt production in the country.
