KARACHI: The rupee maintained upward trend against the dollar on the currency market on Friday in the process of trading activity, marketmen said.

INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: RATES: The rupee managed to gain versus the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 166.80 and Rs 166.90 respectively, they said.

OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee picked up 50 paisa in terms of the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 166.00 and Rs 166.50 respectively, they said. The national currency was trading versus the euro for buying and selling at Rs 177.50 and Rs 179.50 respectively, they said.

The final Asian trade, the dollar was on course for a weekly loss on Friday as the US Federal Reserve's massive new lending programme for small companies and signs of a slowdown in coronavirus infections reduced safe-haven demand.

The pound pulled ahead against the dollar and the euro as markets breathed a sigh of relief after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson left intensive care following his hospitalisation for COVID-19 symptoms.
