LHC approached against massive lay-offs

LAHORE: A bar member on Saturday has approached the Lahore High Court against massive lay-offs in industrial sector due to lockdown in the province of Punjab.

The petitioner Ishtiaq Ahmad Chaudhry contended that the workers had been affected to the most after imposition of the corona virus pandemic lockdown. The lawyer asked the court to direct the government to formulate a scheme to compensate the workers for the loss of livelihood. He said that the government was duty bond to ensure that no employee of industry sector was terminated.

He therefore asked the court to suspend all terminations, resignations and salary cuts in the industrial sector.
