KARACHI: Sindh Information Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah claimed that the work done by the Sindh government for the development of health sector in the province had not been done in any other province of the country.

The provincial information minister said he was proud to say that even in the neighboring countries, patients would not have access to free healthcare facilities which were available to the patients in Sindh province. He said patients suffering from various heart diseases, or needed liver transplants as well as suffering from cancer were being treated free of cost in Sindh through modern technology like cyberknife.

The provincial minister said liver transplantation in Gambat, a small city of Sindh province, was being done free of cost since a long time. Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital was indeed a good medical institution, but the difference between it and Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation was that, in Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital the patient still had to deposit some money while at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation, the patient don’t need to pay a single penny for treatment.

Nasir Shah said the number of dialysis sessions in SIUT was unmatched by any other unit in the world. He said patients from not only Sindh, but from all over the country come to these health institutions in Sindh to avail the facility of free treatment. He said some ordinary politicians used to make statements regarding PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari to raise their political stature. Shah invited the opposition leaders to come and take stock of the progress being made in the health sector in Sindh and then make a statement.

The minister said it was not appropriate to make political statements without knowing the facts. “Criticism for the sake of criticism is nothing but a waste of time,” he said. Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said prior becoming the premier, Imran Khan had always praised the 18th Amendment as well as the National Finance Commission, and this was on record, but now after forming the federal government, no one had any idea why Imran Khan had started criticizing the 18th Amendment and the National Finance Commission.—PR
