KARACHI: Local Government Secretary Roshan Ali Sheikh Friday asked the contractors concerned that money provided by the World Bank should be spent only in cleaning the Storm drains.

He was presiding over a meeting to review the progress on storm drains cleaning project. Roshan was briefed that the rainwater drains in all the districts were being cleaned on a daily basis under which garbage was being loaded on dumpers and transferred to landfill site.

He was informed that around 1672.38 tons of garbage was removed from the rainwater drains in Malir District and transferred to the landfill site on July 8. He asked the contractors to make the cleaning process more efficient and effective.

Roshan said that in the light of the instructions of the Minister for Local Government and the Chief Minister, the process of cleaning the storm drains has been expedited and improved. This needs to be done and it is imperative to complete this project as soon as possible in the interest of public convenience.

Sheikh instructed the participants of the meeting that they should be informed on a daily basis about the cleaning activities taking place in all the districts so that everything is transparent and clear at the time of completion of the work.
