ISLAMABAD: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) approved as many as eight development projects at the cost of Rs36 billion and recommended seven projects valued at Rs233.014 billion to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).

The CDWP met with Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan in the chair at P-Block Secretariat on Monday.

Senior officials from the Planning Commission and the federal ministries/divisions also participated in the meeting, while representatives from the provincial governments participated through a video conference.

Projects related to environment, physical planning, transport and communications, water resources, and education, were presented in the meeting.

Two projects related to environment were presented in the meeting.

The first project, “Sindh Resilience Project (PDMA Component Phase-II)” at the cost of Rs15.31 billion was referred to the ECNEC. The project’s objective is to enhance resilience to natural disasters, including public health emergency response and resource management during public health emergencies.

Second project related to environment, “Developing Revenue Linkage between Marmara Research Centre, Turkey and Pakistan Metrological Department Pakistan” at a cost of Rs168.308 million was approved by the CDWP.

Two projects related to physical planning were presented in the meeting.

First project, “Solid Waste Emergency and Efficiency Project” worth Rs17.661 billion was referred to the ECNEC.

The proposed project will finance intervention that will be implemented over two phases, a) in the immediate emergency response phase, activities will mitigate high flooding risks linked to the 2020 monsoon, and caused by accumulation of solid waste, and sludge in the city. The project will improve backbone SWM infrastructure and service delivery to address the underlying risk factors leading to recurring emergency flooding situation. Second project, “Contraction of New Building for Supreme Court Branch Registry at Karachi Registry Saddar, AM area Karachi” at a cost of Rs4,423.04 million was approved in the meeting.

Three projects related to education were presented in the meeting.

First project, “Establishment of National Curriculum Council Secretariat” at a cost of Rs425.10 million; second project, “Establishment and Operation of Basic Education Community Schools in the Country” valued at Rs7701.757 million, and third project “Improving Human Development Indicators in Pakistan with focus on MDGs relating to Education and six EFA goals” worth Rs4276.408 million were approved by the CDWP. Two projects related to transport and communications, “Widening and carpeting Bonni-Buzund-Torkhow road (28km) District Chitral” at a cost of Rs1219.880 million were approved by the CDWP.

The project envisages improvement and carpeting of 28km long section of the Bonni- Buzund-Torkhow road to make it all weather roads.

It will improve a pavement width of 12 feet with three feet shoulder on each side along with construction of 4 Nos. Second project, “Construction/up-gradation of Dirgi Shahbozai to Tonusa Sharif Road” at a cost of Rs8943.544 million was approved by the CDWP.

Three projects related to water resources and one position paper were presented in the meeting.

First project, “Flood Protection Sector Project-III NFPP-IV” at a cost of Rs95.98 billion, second project, “Sindh resilience Project for Strengthening Flood Embankments and Construction Small Dams includes System for Improving Resilience” at a cost of Rs23.702 billion were referred to the ECNEC.
