RECORDER REPORT

ISLAMABAD: Lt-Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa (retd) on Monday quit as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting.

He announced this in a tweet, saying, “I requested the honourable Prime Minister to relinquish me from the additional portfolio of SAPM on Info & broadcasting. He very kindly approved my request”.

This comes more than a month after he submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Imran Khan following allegations leveled against him and his family’s assets.

However, the prime minister had refused to accept his resignation at the time.

Bajwa was holding the additional charge of Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting, as he is also chairman of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz, while responding to Bajwa’s tweet, asked him to also tender resignation as chairman of the CPEC Authority and “surrender to law”.
