Will Ghani be retained as FBR chairman?

RECORDER REPORT

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman, Javed Ghani, is set to retire on April 10th, i.e., two months before the announcement of the federal budget.

On July 4th, 2020, the federal government had assigned additional charge of the post of the FBR chairman to Muhammad Javed Ghani.

Ghani assumed the additional charge of the post of secretary Revenue Division from July 8th, 2020.

Traditionally, the governments had allowed the outgoing FBR chairman to continue to work till announcement of the federal budget.

According to sources, if Ghani is allowed to continue to work, he may complete the ongoing budget exercise by June 2021.

On the other hand, there are unconfirmed reports that suggest that the government will appoint a new chairman after Ghani’s retirement on April 10th.
