RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: Majority of the industrial units plunged into darkness with suspension of power supply after the Manga Mandi grid station of Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) flooded heavily a day earlier.

The Lesco spokesman said the domestic consumers are being supplied with electricity through alternate sources until the normal supply resumption takes place. However, there was no supply resumption until the filing of this report.

Power supply to majority of the mills was yet suspended as the grid station was still inundated with water in the wake of heavy downpour in the city over the major part of the last week.

The local Lesco staff has told this scribe that a breach in nearby canal led to flooding the electricity installations. It may be noted that that water had destroyed the outer wall of the grid station and entered the grid station.

The Manga Mandi is an industrial estate where a large number of industrial units of all type remain operational 24/7. Some of them have their Captive Power Plants (CPPs) to deal with an emergency situation like this; however, still a large number of the industrial units are dependent on the power supply. Management of many of these mills has informed that the operations of their units are at a halt with the suspension of power supply. They said repeated complaints to the Lesco management were falling on the deaf ear, as both the district administration as well as the Lesco failed to clear the grid station from a flood-like situation.
