RECORDER REPORT
KARACHI: The Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) has intensified its crackdown against non-compliant taxpayers, sealing the business premises of M/s. Brohi Bar B Q Restaurant located near the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Latifabad, Hyderabad.
The action was taken on account of malpractices related to the SRB integrated Point of Sale (POS) system, issuance of improper invoices, and suppression of sales resulting in significant loss of Sindh Sales Tax (SST) revenues.
According to the SRB, it had previously been warned and issued formal notices directing it to cease such malpractices, which constitute tax fraud and are punishable under the applicable provisions of law.
The notices had specifically directed the management to deposit suppressed amounts of SST and to discontinue the issuance of improper invoices.
However, despite repeated directives from the revenue authority, the restaurant continued its non-compliant practices without any corrective action.
Finding persistent non-compliance on the part of the restaurant, SRB officers exercised their legal powers and proceeded with the sealing of the business premises as provided under the law.
The SRB has made clear that this action is part of a broader and sustained enforcement drive against restaurants and businesses that suppress their actual sales figures, avoid integration of their POS systems with the SRB online platform, or issue invoices that bypass the SRB-POS online system.
The revenue authority has warned that similar action will be taken against all such non-compliant businesses across the province without any discrimination or leniency.
