RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pakistani rupee closed steady against the US dollar and the British pound in the local currency market on Monday, supported by late-session buying after subdued trading weighed on sentiment earlier in the day.

Currency dealers said the local unit traded on a firm footing during the early session amid improved market activity, posting modest gains. Trading, however, turned sluggish later in the day, dampening overall market sentiment. Fresh buying interest in the closing session helped the rupee recover from intraday pressure and end the day on a stable note.

At the close of trading, the rupee's buying and selling rates against the US dollar remained unchanged at Rs280.00 and Rs282.00, respectively, compared with the previous session.

Against the British pound, the rupee's buying rate settled at Rs374.70, while the selling rate remained unchanged at Rs378.50.
