PTI urges govt to implement SC’s order
ISLAMABAD: The opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday urged the government to immediately implement the Supreme Court’s order to transfer former prime minister Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital for medical treatment.
The demand came at a joint meeting of PTI’s Political Committee and Core Committee. Senior party members reviewed the country’s political situation, Khan’s health and the implications of the Supreme Court’s recent order.
The meeting welcomed the court’s directive. It said Khan should be transferred to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for medical examination and treatment, with access to his personal physicians and family members.
The party called for the order to be implemented immediately and in full.
PTI said it had not politicised Khan’s health and would not do so. It described his health as a humanitarian and national concern.
The party said his family, supporters and millions of Pakistanis had consistently expressed concern about his wellbeing.
The party said restrictions on meetings with Khan and the lack of access for his family and personal physicians had heightened concerns about his health.
It described the Supreme Court’s intervention as an important step toward addressing those concerns and ensuring he receives appropriate medical care.
PTI also urged Khan’s voters, supporters, workers, followers and social media activists to avoid unnecessary gatherings, crowds and filming outside Shifa International Hospital.
It said such activity could disrupt Khan’s treatment and inconvenience other patients and their families.
The party urged supporters to help ensure the court order is carried out peacefully and responsibly, without obstructing Khan’s transfer or treatment.
The meeting also called for former first lady Bushra Bibi to receive all necessary medical facilities, examinations and treatment.
PTI said no prisoner should be deprived of basic medical and humanitarian care.ZULFIQAR AHMAD
