KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee continued its marginal gain against the US dollar for another week, appreciating 0.03% in the inter-bank market.
The local unit closed at 277.56 against the greenback, a gain of Re0.09 from 277.65 it had closed at a week earlier.
Pakistan recorded a current account deficit of $328 million in July 2026, narrowing from $814 million in June 2026 and $529 million in July 2025.
The country’s Real Effective Exchange Rate (REER), a measure of the value of a currency against a weighted average of several foreign currencies, clocked in at 107.92 in July 2026, up from 106.33 in June 2026.
Meanwhile, foreign exchange reserves held by SBP increased by $25 million during the week ended August 13, 2026, reaching $17.08 billion.
The country’s total liquid foreign exchange reserves stood at $22.50 billion as of August 13, comprising $17.08 billion held by the SBP and $5.42 billion held by commercial banks.
Open-market rates
In the open market, the PKR gained 33 paise for buying and 34 paise for selling against USD, closing at 278.26 and 279.28, respectively.
Against Euro, the PKR lost 3.33 rupees for buying and 3.30 rupees for selling, closing at 323.61 and 326.72, respectively.
Against UAE Dirham, the PKR gained 23 paise for buying and 17 paise for selling, closing at 75.57 and 76.28, respectively.
Against Saudi Riyal, the PKR gained 29 paise for buying and 23 paise for selling, closing at 73.83 and 74.47, respectively.
