PRA registers 35,000 new businesses in tax drive
RECORDER REPORT
LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has registered 35,000 new businesses across Punjab during the past year as part of efforts to expand the provincial tax net.
PRA Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra, while chairing a review meeting on business registration and tax-net expansion targets, directed officials to ensure transparency in tax returns and compliance alongside registration.
He said the scope of digital monitoring of business activities would be expanded, adding that businesses with monthly sales of up to Rs500,000 would be linked with the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System (e-IMS) to improve transparency in transactions and tax payments.
The chairman directed officials to ensure effective monitoring of tax returns and invoices through the central monitoring system. He said the objective of business registration was not merely to increase the number of taxpayers but to promote tax transparency and digital economic growth.
He also directed commissioners to organise awareness sessions on tax laws and compliance for businesses. Sipra said, on the directions of the chief minister, the PRA would ensure an easy, transparent and modern digital tax system for all taxpayers.
