Modalities for export of 20,000 MT surplus sugar approved

ISLAMABAD: The government on Tuesday approved modalities for the export of 200,000 metric tonnes of surplus sugar and constituted a monitoring committee to regularly monitor domestic sugar prices, while directing the concerned ministries to expedite the process.
Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator (DPM/FM) Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee for the Export of Surplus Sugar.
The meeting finalised modalities for the export of 200,000 MT of sugar and approved the constitution of a monitoring committee to regularly monitor sugar prices.
The DPM/FM directed all concerned ministries to expedite the process and complete the pending formalities immediately to support the sugar industry and sugarcane farmers, boost foreign exchange earnings, and protect domestic consumers.
The meeting was attended by the Minister for National Food Security and Research, Minister for Climate Change, SAPM Tariq Bajwa, Secretaries of Commerce and National Food Security and Research, and other relevant stakeholders from federal and provincial departments.
