RECORDER REPORT

FAISALABAD: All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (APTPMA) expresses satisfaction on partial supply of gas to value-added and export-oriented textile processing industry during the ongoing winter season.

Smooth and uninterrupted gas and electricity supply to value-added textile industry is beneficial both for the industry and the country as recent export figures of value-added textile products are indicating positive sign.

This was learnt on conclusion of a meeting of APTPMA Central Executive Committee, which was chaired by Sheikh Muhammad Ayub, Central Chairman APTPMA.

Besides expressing satisfaction on partial supply of gas to the Textile Processing Industry, All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (APTPMA), through a unanimous resolution on the occasion, the participants in the meeting expressed grave concern over the recent revival and increase of Gas Infrastructures Development Cess (GIDC) from Rs 50 to Rs 100 per MMBTU on the gas bills and frequent sharp increase in gas and electricity tariff which is escalating our cost of production and render our products unviable and uncompetitive in the domestic as well as international export market which would cast unhealthy repercussions upon our industrial production, export performance and national economy.

Besides above APTPMA Executive Committee has sought FBR attention towards sales tax refund claims by some members of the Association which have been approved by the FBR but pending with the concerned collectorates for payments by delaying tactics which is causing huge financial problems for the affected members of APTPMA. Unnecessary show cause notices are being issued by the Regional Collectorates regarding assessment of income on the basis of previous years’ business volume which is also causing panic among the members of APTPMA and hampering govt’s efforts toward revival of value-added textile industry.

In view of these grave apprehensions, APTPMA appeals the govt for removal of these obstacles to ensure the smooth running and revival of value-added Textile Processing Industry which is playing a very important role for the promotion of our exports and economy.
