KARACHI: There is no threat to coastal areas of Pakistan including Karachi, Thatta and Badin as a result of gradually weakening of Nilofar Cyclone, says Ikhlaaq Jamil, Deputy Director forecasting weather central main analysis centre, Karachi on Thursday.

Talking to APP, Ikhlaaq said Nilofar would weaken much more as it reaches around 250 kilometres off Karachi and crosses it at night on Friday.

The cyclone had turn into tropical cyclone. There was a prediction of 20 to 30 millimetres rain with gusty winds.

He also expressed doubt that it might touch Badin, Thatta and Indian Gujrat.

Ikhlaaq said it arose in Arabian sea and the name of cyclone was suggested by Pakistan.

If next cyclone occurs its name would be ‘Pirya’ which had been suggested by Sri Lanka, ‘Koman’ by Thailand and next again ‘Warda’ by Pakistan, he added.

He further said that cyclone is mainly a masculine name but due to Nilofar name it had turned into feminine one. Mostly cyclone arose in the month of May and June and October and November. Till filing of the report, he told this scribe that Nilofar was 600 kilometre southwest of Karachi. —APP
