RECORDER REPORT

FAISALABAD: Federal Minister for Commerce Engr. Khurram Dastgir Khan has assured full support to textile exporters for restoration of zero rating sales tax regime and expeditious payment of stuck up liquidity in refund regime to boost exports and generate precious forex for the country.

Talking to newsmen here on Saturday, Sohail Pasha Chairman Pakistan Textile Exporters Association said that a delegation of leading textile exporters under his leadership called on Commerce Minister Engr. Khurram Dastgir Khan to apprise him about the hurdles in export growth. They briefed the Minister about the precarious position of Punjab based textile units and the difficulties and un-competitiveness with regional rivals being faced. They informed that value added textile industry is in a grip of severe crisis as more than a quarter of total textile production capacity is lying idle on account of energy crisis, lack of funds, high production cost, and dwindling exports. Billions of rupees of textile exporters are already blocked in sales tax, customs rebate, DLTL and other incentive regimes introduced in textile policy 2009-14.
