KARACHI: All Private Schools Management Association Sindh (APSMAS) on Friday turned down the Sindh government’s decision to extend vacation of schools in Sindh province till August 11 in view of ongoing flood situation, and appealed to review the decision.

Chairman APSMAS Syed Khalid Shah addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club, said according to previous decision of Sindh government, all government and private schools were going to open on August 3 but after reviewing the recent flood situation in different parts of Sindh it was decided by the government to extend vacation and open schools on 11th of August. He said as it seems that most of the areas of Sindh like Karachi, Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas are completely safe of floods.

He said Sindh government should have taken this decision in consultation with experts of education sector.

Shah categorically turned down the decision of Sindh government to extend the summer vacation and said they would allow all private schools to open as per the previous notification of Sindh government.

He said they are agreed to extend vacation of schools in those districts which are under the danger of flood but to close the schools which are out of danger is unjustified.

Shah said in view of notification issued by Sindh government, he has already met with Secretary Education Sindh Fazullah Pechooho and appealed him to review the decision.

Talking to PPI Chairman Public Private Schools Management Association Sindh Haider Ali said extending vacations in not in favour of education sector. He said the Sindh government should have consulted with experts before announcing such sort of decisions. He asked education minister Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani to take charge of Education sector immediately and ask government to reconsider the decision.

However, responding to the press conference, Secretary Education Sindh Fazullullah Pechooho said they would obey the decisions of Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah. He said such associations will be responsible if any student was affected due to their policies.

However, Syed Khalid Shah, Haider Ali, Shehzad Akhtar reiterated that all the private schools will reopen from Monday.—PPI
