RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: The Supreme Court has dismissed a pre-arrest bail of a cleric charged with a hate speech case that also involves anti-Shahdara police incitement.

The police booked Maulana Ashraf Shakir under section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act and other provisions of law for his hate speeches and an attack on a police raiding team on March 25, 2013.

His counsel, present in the court, said his client was admitted to the Mayo Hospital following an accident.

The court told the counsel that the Lahore High Court had dismissed his bail since he had taken the same plea for his absence. He and a doctor were then told to appear in the court in an ambulance by the hospital’s Additional Medical Superintendent; Doctor Tahir Khalil said the cleric was admitted to the hospital following minor injuries a day before.

He said the cleric was discharged from the hospital after treatment and also showed his record that his hospital never showed stay of the suspect on Tuesday.
