ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the federal government to submit time frame for conducting census in the country by November 18 (Friday).

Appearing before a two-member judge bench led by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali in a suo motu case regarding delay in holding population census, Attorney General for Pakistan Ashtar Ausaf submitted that census would be held in the country during March 2017.

Earlier, submitting a report in the matter, the Attorney General Office informed the court that the federal government has decided to use alternate methodology to hold census in phases by using electronic devices for data collection in the country.

After a brief hearing of the case, the bench issued directives to the federal government to furnish report pertaining to the time frame of holding census.

The hearing in the matter was adjourned till November 18 (today).
