HYDERABAD: The Sindh Ombudsman Secretariat had resolved 260 out of 285 complaints received from working women of different organizations and institutes of the province.

The remaining cases are under hearing and will be resolved soon, informed Provincial Ombudsman Sindh former Justice Syed Pir Ali Shah while speaking as chief guest at a seminar organized by Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro on Friday in connection with World Day of Violence against Women.

The Provincial Ombudsman admitted that though working atmosphere required for women is still not suitable in public and private officers, institutions and organizations however, all out efforts are being made to initiate prompt action against those who involved in such menace.

The rules and laws are for all and the Ombudsman Secretariat is delivering the best to provide justice to victims however, he maintained that if mala fide intention of character assassination of any person found in any complaint, action would immediately be initiated against complainant.

He informed that special centers have been formed in all district offices of Provincial Ombudsman Secretariat and the victims can submit their complaints for prompt relief.

The Vice Chancellor Mehran University Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aslam Uqaili while addressing the participants of seminar informed that the university management has initiated various steps to provide equal opportunity of work without gender discrimination. The university management has also introduced the gender policy for betterment of working atmosphere in the university, he added.

The university management is providing equal opportunity of employment to women and providing them all due facilities, he said and informed different initiatives including opening of baby day care centre, formation of women engineers’ society and establishment of women resource centre which accomplished by the university management.

The head of Women Harassment Cell Mehran University Dr. Atiya Baqai while speaking on the occasion informed that the cell has introduced the facility of online registration of complaints regarding violence and harassment of women at workplace. The university management is providing cordial atmosphere with protection of women rights and better opportunity to women to discharge their responsibilities at workplace without any fear or chaos, she informed.

Among others, Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Hussain Ali and Registrar Prof. Dr. Abdul Waheed Umrani also attended the seminar with teachers and students of the university.
