FAISALABAD: Extensive consultations have been started to draft a comprehensive new transport policy which be able to cater to the entire transportation needs of Pakistan up to 2025.

This policy will fulfil the domestic as well as regional needs and the proposed draft of this policy is expected to be submitted to the Cabinet committee in August this year.

This was disclosed by Peter Turner, team leader of “Enabling Economic Corridor through Sustainable Transport Development”. This project will be funded by Asian Development Bank.

He along with David Hunter Trade Facilitation Specialist and Maqbool Elahi had a detailed meeting with Ahmad Hasan, President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) and discussed the project and needs of local exporters and industrialists.

Turner said that he is visiting various chambers to get the input of business community which will be inculcated in this policy in order to fulfill the demands, expectations and future needs of the business community.

Ahmad Hasan also briefed them about the logistic-related demands of Faisalabad and said that Faisalabad is regarded as a branch line city despite of its huge economic and export potential. He said that in view of its increasing economic importance, the government has developed Express Way to link it with Provincial Metropolis. Similarly, Faisalabad is connected with M-2 through M-3 (Faisalabad-Pindi Bhattian). In South, a new Motorway (M-4) is under construction which will link it with Multan.
