KARACHI: K-Electric (KE) that says it is Pakistan’s only vertically integrated private utility has rejected the claims being made by certain quarters of excessive collection by KE as baseless and contrary to the factual position.

“The unfounded allegations are contrary to factual position and stem from a lack of understanding of performance-based Multi Year Tariff (MYT) regime and regulatory framework,” it said.

It further said that the false perception of overburdening the citizens of Karachi was also incorrect. It clarified that the consumer-end tariff is uniform in all over the country along with the slabs of electricity which are also implemented across Pakistan. K-Electric confirmed that no change has been made in the tariff charged for Karachi-based consumers, nor any benefit was denied.

“KE ensures complete transparency in its billing process by complying with the regulatory guidelines. In cases where theft, meter tampering or illegal abstraction is detected, the billing is done based on prescribed regulatory guidelines,” it said, adding that around 83% of the cases decided by the Wafaqi Mohtasib in the past 6 months from October 2016 to March 2017 were in favour of K-Electric.—PR
