PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Inayatullah Khan has said that the Water and Sanitation Service Company (WSSC) would be established at divisional headquarters, for which Rs 4 billion had been estimated in financial year 2017-18.

Speaking at a news conference at press club here on Friday, he said that the provincial government had fulfilled its commitment by devolving the power to gross root level, and increased the financing to local governments from Rs 14 billion to Rs 48 bilion during last two year as compared to allocations in previous LG system.

He informed that a sum of Rs 48 billion had so far transferred in the current fiscal year. He added Rs 28 billion would be spent in the next financial period 2017-18. He said that a total of Rs 69 billion had been allocated for local government for upcoming fiscal year.

Of the total outlay of Rs 208 billion of Annual Development Programme, the minister said that a huge chunk of Rs 7 billion had been earmarked to complete 41 developmental projects, while a sum of Rs 401million would be utilized to initiate 15 new uplift schemes.

The minister said that a comprehensive strategy would be devised for disposing off the solid waste in various cities in the province. He informed that Rs 600 million had been allocated to installation of LED lights in Peshawar.

He said that a sum of Rs 7 billion had been estimated for construction of northern section of ring road Peshawar, whereas Rs 12 billion would be spent on construction of Warsak-Jamrud road in the next financial year.

Similarly, he said that modern general bus stations would be established at Peshawar, Mardan, Mingora, Dir, and Swabi, at the cost of Rs 97 million.

He said the construction of service road along with main Ring road would be completed with estimated cost of Rs 912 million in the upcoming fiscal period. Likewise, he said a sum of Rs 1500 million would be spent on interchange over ring road Peshawar.

The minister said that Rs 6 billion had been allocated for launching of divisional uplift programme on pattern of Peshawar. He said that a sum of Rs 400 million would be spent on beautification of Timergara and Haripur.

He said that Rs 500 million had been allocated for establishment of Malakand Hal Station. He said Rs 2 billion had so far transferred for supply of gas and construction of road in Regi model town Peshawar.

Inayatullah Khan said a hefty amount of Rs 7 billion had been allocated for municipal and rural roads infrastructure development, while he said that the revenue of Tehsil Municipal Administration had increased from Rs.1billion to Rs.4billion over the short span of time.

Similarly, he said Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) is now profiting making public sector institute. He said that after successful introduction of E-tendering, the department would soon launch Online Tendering system to bring more transparency and fairness in the bidding process.

He said that Rs 10 billion had so far spent on beatification of Peshawar, while safe city Hayatabad project is being partially completed, for which Rs 400 million had allocated. He said his government would complete construction of seven flyovers in Peshawar by end of its tenure.

The minister said the department had generated Rs 3.20 billion after retrieving huge area of lands, while anti-encroachment campaign was launched in Galiyat, and retrieved 152 kanal lands in the region that would safe over Rs 7 billion to provincial kitty.

During the recent road show in Beijing, he said the department had signed memorandum of standing for various projects worth Rs 60 billion. He added the main projects under CPEC are included CPEC tower, Civic centre Hayatabad, and Health City Regi Model Town Peshawar.
