SIALKOT: Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Saturday said that government was making adequate efforts for the promotion of education across the country.

Addressing laptop distribution ceremony under Prime Minister Scheme at Government College Women University, he urged upon the students that they should focus attention on their studies to cope with future challenges. The minister stated that our younger generation have the great ability and courage to bring revolutionary changes into the society and fight global challenges more easily. With establishment of women university and functioning of medical college in the area students were getting education at their doorstep and virtue these institutions the parents are feeling sign of relief, he added.

The minister said that government was striving hard to put the country on the road of development and prosperity adding that education sector showing satisfactory result in the promotion and expansion of education across the country.

The minister revealed that currently 188 recognized universities are functioning in the country and 14 lakh students are getting their education in these universities and 48 percent are female students.

Asif disclosed that federal government is spending 107 billion on the promotion of education whereas government had planned to distribute 5 lakh laptops and so far 2 lakh laptops had been distributed among the students adding that 1.50 lakh laptops had been assembled in Pakistan.

In her address of welcome Vice Chancellor of Women University Dr Farhat Sleemi highlighted different achievements of the university. She said that Government College Women University had been added in Smart University project. The ceremony was attended by MNAs and MPAs, Mayor and Chairperson Sialkot District Council.
