RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chief Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri has announced a countrywide protest movement against the ruling PML-N government from January 17.

This announcement came after expiration of deadline of January 7 for the resignations of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Law Minister Rana Sanaullah demanded by the APC on December 30. The protest will not stop until the entire PML-N led government is over, announced Qadri.

While talking to media at Model Town on Monday after attending the APC-made steering committee meeting, he said that an action committee had been formed which would take all sort of decisions and handle administrative matters pertaining to the protest. The action committee would hold its first meeting on January 11 which comprises of Qamar Zaman Kaira, Abdul Aleem Khan, Kaamil Ali Agha, Sheikh Rasheed, Liaqat Blouch, Nasir Sherazi and Khurram Nawaz Gundapur. It may also convene steering committee meeting.

Meanwhile, addressing the steering committee meeting, Qadri said they will not demand resignations anymore as the deadline of January 7 as already expired.

The PAT chief added that the matter has gone beyond resignations. “Now the government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz will be no more,” he said, adding there was no chance for the ruling party to remain in power.

Heads of all political parties including Asif Ali Zardari and Mustafa Kamal were invited to participate in the protest, Qadri pointed out.
