LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Health Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that about Rs 5.5 billion are being spent on different development activities during the current fiscal year in Sahiwal district by the Punjab government so that the people could have easy access to different health facilities at their doorsteps.

The completion of this program will provide better facilities to the people in health and education sectors, Salman said while presiding over a meeting to review the annual development program in Friday.

The minister took a detailed review of development schemes of different departments and issued directions that the pace of work should be further expedited so that development schemes could be completed according to their schedule.

He said that no compromise will be made on the quality of work and asked the Deputy Commissioner to personally supervise the development process.

The meeting was told that work on 337 schemes is underway in Sahiwal under the ADP. Out of it, 56 schemes are ongoing while 281 are new projects including 33 relating to schools education, nine belong to sports, 131 are public health projects and 91 remaining are road development schemes.

Later, the minister visited child protection institution building which is in the last leg of its completion. The institution which is being constructed with a cost of Rs 110.2 million will provide residential facilities to 200 homeless boys and as much girls. These abandoned children will also be provided free quality education.

The minister directed that remaining work should be speedily completed so that it could be activated at the earliest. He also inspected the construction work of new administrative block of the Government College and expressed his satisfaction over the quality of work.
