NAVEED BUTT

ISLAMABAD: Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah has said that Pakistan Peoples Party enjoys majority to elect its own opposition leader in the Senate.

He said this while speaking to media persons here at the Parliament House on Thursday. The PPP nominated candidate for the slot of opposition leader Senator Sherry Rehman and MNA Syed Naveed Qamar were also present on this occasion.

Shah said that the PPP wants to move forward along with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He said that the PPP has no contention with the PTI; however, it will see what to do. He said that the PPP has 21 senators while PTI has 12 and “we should adopt a political and democratic way on the matter. We have majority and our candidate should be supported.”

Replying to a question about throwing shoes at political leaders, he said, “Our society does not accept politics of hurling shoes and ink.”

Shah said, “We continued politics despite bracing bullets and we have never been afraid of bullets.”

Replying to another question, he said that the government has yet to give names for the caretaker prime minister. He said that consultation is underway for the candidate’s name, and expressed hope that the party’s allies will extend cooperation in this matter.

On a question about tax amnesty scheme, Syed Naveed Qamar said that the government is going to present Budget 2018-19 in the Parliament and any tax amnesty scheme would be part of it. He said that all amnesty schemes which were presented in the past failed to produce desired results. He further said the PML-N government has lost its credibility.
