ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has not issued any notification SRO 284(1)/2018 dated 11th May, 2018 regarding settlement of outstanding taxes in courts by payment of 15 to 25 percent of the tax demands before June 20, 2018.

According to the FBR’s instructions issued to the field formations here on Thursday, it has been brought to the knowledge of the Federal Board of Revenue that a fake notification SRO 284(1)/2018 dated 11th May, 2018 is in circulation and may also be available on the social media.

In the aforementioned fraudulent notification it has been stipulated that the outstanding tax demand which has been granted interim stay by the High Court or Supreme Court would be treated as settled if the taxpayer opts to withdraw the case pending before the High Court or the Supreme Court and voluntarily pays 15 per cent of the contested tax demand on or before 30th June, 2018. Likewise, the notification also stipulates that the tax demand against which stay has been granted by the Commissioner Inland Revenue (Appeals) or the Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue would be treated as settled if the taxpayer opts to withdraw the case pending before the Commissioner Inland Revenue (Appeals) or the Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue and voluntarily pays 25 per cent of the contested tax demand on or before 20th June, 2018, the FBR said.

It is hereby clarified that neither such notification/SRO was issued by the FBR nor is any such notification/SRO available on the official website of the Federal Board of Revenue, the FBR maintained.
