RECORDER REPORT

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Flour Mills Association has blamed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for failure to follow its own wheat procurement policy 2018, regarding purchase of three lakh ton wheat from the local farmers by buying the commodity from Punjab for high kickbacks.

This was disclosed by a delegation of Pakistan Flour Mills Association led by its Chairman Haji Adnan Khan during a meeting with Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry leaders at the SCCI office here on Thursday.

The millers said that the government had announced purchasing the wheat from the local growers and there will be no compromise on quality of the commodity.

However, the provincial government itself violated the policy and purchased substandard wheat from Punjab through the food controllers. The violation of wheat procurement policy, they said was meant to get commissions and nothing else.

The millers said that they had given suggestions many times that the wheat should be purchased through the Pakistan Flour Mills Association to ensure its best quality and provide quality flour to the consumers across the province.

Meanwhile, SCCI Senior Vice President Mohammad Naeem Butt assured the delegation of raising the issue with full force to ensure implementation of the wheat procurement policy so that the consumers would get quality wheat flour on reasonable rates.

The SCCI leader demanded of the chief secretary government of KP to take notice of the complaints and check quality of the recently purchased wheat in godowns so that action could be taken against those involved in violation of the policy.
