KARACHI: A divisional bench of Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday issued notices to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and others on a plea of Sharjeel Memon, former provincial information minister seeking return of the amount of surety bond.

The divisional bench resumed hearing of the case related to misappropriation of Rs 5.7 billion government funds in awarding contracts to advertising agencies.

Earlier, the court had turned down the petition of Memon for interim bail. He had furnished a surety bond worth Rs 4 million in the court against the interim bail. He pleaded in the court for return of that amount after his petition for interim bail was turned down. Court issued notices to NAB and others to submit their replies for the return of the surety bond by August 15.

Sharjeel Memon along with the other accused has been charged with committing corruption in public funds while awarding contracts to advertising agencies when he was Sindh information minister.

Meanwhile, a divisional bench of SHC also issued notices to Sindh Government, IGP and DG Rangers and others on a plea regarding the recovery of a citizen Ateequr Rahman, who according to the petition, was lifted from Lyari. The court questioned who is behind the disappearance of the citizens. It directed the concerned authorities to submit a report by recovering the citizen and issued notices to aforesaid authorities.
